Report of the 6th Central and Eastern European Local Chinese Teacher Training

The 6th Central and Eastern European Local Chinese Teacher Training was held from 2nd November 2017 – 6th November 2017 at ELTE Confucius Institute, Budapest Hungary. The training was a big success with the participation of 50 teachers and professionals from 12 countries.

The 6th Central and Eastern European Local Chinese Teacher Training was held from 2nd November 2017 – 6th November 2017 at ELTE Confucius Institute, Budapest Hungary. The training was a big success with the participation of 50 teachers and professionals from 12 countries. The “CEE Chinese Language Teachers Training Centre” was providing the travel fee, accommodation, lunch and coffee breaks for the participants. Their hotel was located nearby the university (Ibis Styles  hotel: 1074 Budapest, Rákóczi út 58.) The 2nd November, the participants arrived to Budapest, and occupied their rooms in the Hotel (Hotel Ibis Budapest). On 3rd November, the registration started at 10:00 at ELTE Confucius Institute. During the Opening ceremony, prof. Hamar Imre and Wu Hua was greeting everyone. The ELTE Choir and Herczkó Ágnes folksinger was performing at the opening ceremony. Professor Zhou Xiaobing (周小兵) from the Sun Yat-sen University (中山大学) was holding two lectures on the “Use of Chinese Teaching Resource Library “汉语教学资源库的使用”. On the 4th of November in the morning section Prof. Liu Danqing 刘丹青教授 (Chinese Academy of Social Sciences 中国社会科学院语言所所长)was holding two lectures on “Typological and cultural features of Chinese“汉语的类型特点和文化特点” “Syntactic constraints on coordinate structures and a preliminary account” “并列结构的句法限制及其初步解释”, and in the afternoon section Prof. Wang Xuesong (王学松教授) from Beijing Normal University (北京师范大学)held two lectures with the title: “Chinese Culture Teaching in Chinese Language Teaching,“汉语教学中的中国文化教学”, “Chinese poetry Teaching in Chinese Language Teaching“ “汉语教学中的中国诗歌教学. On the 5th of November Prof. Huba Bartos from Eötvös Loránd Universtity (罗兰大学中文系) was starting the morning section with two lectures:  “Study of Chinese Grammar” “汉语语法研究” “Chinese Grammar Teaching” “汉语语法教学” and in the afternoon section professor Christopher Ryan was holding a lecture on “Classroom management in Teaching English as a Foreign Language” “作为外语的英语教学课堂教学法”.

On the closing date on 6th of November a group discussion was held by the participants. During the group discussion, the focus was sharing the experience what methods can be used for motivating the students during studying Chinese, and how can the teachers escape the burn out syndrome. At the end of the group discussion the participants were recommending further topics for the future trainings, also were thanking the organizers their work. At the closing ceremony Prof. Dr. Imre Hamar was summarizing the happenings of the 6th Chinese Teacher Training and expressed his wish for other successful trainings in the future.

The training itself was a great success. The participants were highly appreciating the wide range of topics and the useful dialogues between the lecturers and the participants. In the future the goal is to develop other methods and topics to help the Chinese language teachers in the region.
